On April 18, Good Friday, as part of the LIII Semana de Música Religiosa de Cuenca, Schola Antiqua and The Tallis Scholars groups will offer, under the direction of Juan Carlos Asensio Palacios and Peter Phillips respectively, a reconstruction of the complete Office of Good Friday in the hours prescribed by the ritual -with some license-.
The plainsong from the Cathedral of Toledo and the Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial be used. Meanwhile, the polyphony will be those composers linked to these two institutions and whose music was in the days when El Greco was in El Escorial and then his long stay in Toledo. Figure El Greco has been the leitmotiv of this reconstruction.
Works of Cristóbal de Morales, Andrés de Torrents Rodrigo de Ceballos, Francisco Guerrero, Tomás Luis de Victoria, Alonso Lobo, Martin Villanueva and Alonso de Tejeda will be interpreted. The performances will conform to the following schedule:
